OVERVIEW
The Department of Internal Medicine III at the University of Ulm, under Hartmut Döhner, has been the epicentre of the molecular revolution in AML. Building on the landmark discovery of NPM1 mutations by Brunangelo Falini and colleagues at the University of Perugia, the Ulm group integrated key prognostic mutations, including NPM1, FLT3, and biallelic CEBPA, into a unified risk classification and led the development of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) recommendations for AML diagnosis and management. These consensus guidelines have become the global standard for AML management and clinical trial stratification.
