OVERVIEW

Oslo University Hospital (Oslo universitetssykehus) is Norway’s largest and most comprehensive medical institution, formed in 2009 through the merger of Rikshospitalet, Ullevål University Hospital, Aker University Hospital, and the Radiumhospitalet. Affiliated with the University of Oslo, it serves as both a national referral center and a leading university hospital.

The hospital provides specialized health services to the entire Norwegian population, while also covering emergency and local healthcare for the Oslo region. With over 20,000 employees, it is among the largest hospitals in Scandinavia. Its structure integrates patient care, research, education, and innovation, ensuring that clinical practice and scientific discovery go hand in hand.

Oslo University Hospital is recognized internationally for advanced treatment and research in areas such as cancer, cardiovascular medicine, neurology, immunology, and organ transplantation. The Radiumhospitalet in particular is a national center of excellence for oncology.

In addition to patient care, the hospital plays a central role in medical education and training, hosting a wide range of residency programs, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers. It is also Norway’s largest medical research institution, with a high output of scientific publications and strong collaborations with international research networks.
