BIOGRAPHY
Michael Peckham (Professor, Sir) was undoubtably, one the most European British oncologist. He had spent 2 years at the Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France. He returned to the UK in 1967 to join the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research in London, where he was appointed Professor of Radiotherapy from 1973 until 1986. His major contributions were on Hodgkin’s disease and testis tumors. Michael Peckham was one of the five “inventors” of ESTRO in 1980, He chaired the inaugural ESTRO meeting in London in 1982. He was also one of the founders and first President of FECS. He was also involved in the birth of ESO. He then moved to the administration in 1986 as Director of the then British Postgraduate Medical Federation and became Director of Research and Development for the Department of Health and the National Health Service (NHS). A visionary pioneer and a recognized artist in modern painting, he was also deeply missed as a radiation oncologist.
