BIOGRAPHY

Bernard Pierquin, along with Daniel Chassagne, was one of the leading figures who promoted the Department of Radiations of the Institut Gustave Roussy at the highest level both for megavoltage radiotherapy and brachytherapy. Bernard Pierquin and Daniel Chassagne brought their most original contribution with the Paris system for interstitial and intracavitary brachytherapy using Iridium-192 and modern techniques of applications, dose calculation and radiation protection. Bernard Pierquin later headed the department of radiotherapy of Créteil. Alain Gerbaulet at the IGR, Jean-Pierre Mazeron at Créteil and Monique Pernot at Nancy further enriched the heritage of their mentors.
