BIOGRAPHY

Andrée Dutreix, radiation physicist at the Institut Gustave Roussy (Villejuif) is considered as the “mother” of Radiation Physics in France. She created a remarkable team at the institute who promoted the teaching and recognition of Radiation Physics as a specific training. Her dosimetry contribution to the “Paris System” of brachytherapy was essential to the success of that methodology. She strongly supported the development of a radiation Physics section of ESTRO and participated to several ICRU reports. Her pupils, Jean Chavaudra. Jean-Claude Rosenwald and Ginette Marinello were closely associated to her contributions. Her husband, Jean Dutreix, was responsible of the first Betatron manufactured in France at the IGR in 1953 and one of the best specialists for radiotherapy of solid tumors.
