Stephen W. Duffy
BIOGRAPHY
Stephen W. Duffy, Professor of Cancer Screening at the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis, Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. His impact upon the regular, biennial evaluation and publication of the results from the Two-County Swedish Trial was crucial for clarifying the long-term effects of invitation to mammography screening. The publication of the largest randomized controlled trial (RCT) as well with the longest, 29 years, follow-up time, was awarded with the first Alexander R. Margulis Award for scientific excellence in 2012 by the Radiological Society of North America. During his long association with the Department of Mammography in Falun, Sweden, his contribution continued with assessment of the results of service screening with mammography in 13 counties of Sweden, covering approximately 40% of the population. This collaboration resulted in 89 publications in the peer reviewed literature. One of the most recent studies was awarded the tenth Alexander R. Margulis Award in 2021.
