BIOGRAPHY

Etienne Brain is currently medical oncologist at the Institut Curie in France with a special expertise in treating elderly breast cancer patients. He achieved his MD with board certification in medical oncology in 1993, worked for a one year as a post-doc at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Boston University in the United States, before getting a PhD in pharmacology at the Paris-Descartes University in 2005. Since the early 2000s, Brain has been involved in the adjustment of treatment for older breast cancer patients, working to make research more inclusive for vulnerable groups. He therefore conducted the ASTER-70 trial, which explored the benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy in addition to endocrine therapy in groups of patients aged over 70. Over the years, Brain has chaired the EORTC Breast cancer group and has been a member of numerous organisations, such as Unicancer and the Breast International Group/BIG. Brain has received the B.J. Kennedy ASCO Award for Scientific Excellence in Geriatric Oncology, in 2022, the Michel Hery geriatric oncology Award at the Monaco Age Oncology conference, in 2023, and the Prix Albert 1er of the Académie Nationale de Médecine at the Biennale Monégasque de Cancérologie, in 2024.
