BIOGRAPHY
Bob Löwenberg is a Dutch haematologist who led the HOVON leukaemia programme from Erasmus Medical Centre Cancer Institute, Rotterdam, for over three decades. Under his leadership, HOVON conducted pivotal randomised trials that shaped modern AML therapy. His landmark 2009 trial demonstrated that escalated-dose daunorubicin (90 mg/m²) improved remission rates and survival, changing induction practice worldwide. Löwenberg also championed an integrated trial model linking induction, molecular risk, consolidation, and transplant decisions within a single framework, an approach that became a blueprint for European cooperative AML research.
