BIOGRAPHY

Bengt Lundgren, MD, PhD, Director of the Department of Mammography at the Gävle County Hospital, developed a strategy for mass screening for breast cancer using the medio-lateral oblique projection. His pilot studies prompted the National Board of Health and Welfare of Sweden to initiate the large, randomized controlled Two-County Trial in 1977.
