Alan Burnett is a Welsh haematologist who led the UK Medical Research Council (MRC) AML trials programme from Cardiff for over two decades. Through landmark trials MRC AML10, AML12, and AML15, Burnett established principles guiding modern AML treatment, including optimal anthracycline dosing, the benefit of gemtuzumab ozogamicin, and consolidation strategies. His pragmatic trial designs, emphasising broad enrolment and real-world applicability, set a standard for European cooperative group research and influenced AML practice worldwide.
