Unicancer

OVERVIEW

Unicancer represents the only French hospital federation fully dedicated to oncology and the sole nationwide hospital network specialised exclusively in cancer care.

The organization includes 18 French Comprehensive Cancer Centres and one affiliated member, all of which contribute significantly to healthcare delivery, research, and innovation within the French public health system. French Comprehensive Cancer Centres were formally established in 1945 under the initiative of Général de Gaulle as institutions exclusively devoted to oncology. Integrated into the public hospital service, these centres remain regulated by the French Ministry of Health under the same conditions as public hospitals.

The Fédération Nationale des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer (FNCLCC), founded in 1964, became the national coordinating body for these institutions, while additional organizational structures were later developed to support their activities. In 2011, the name “Unicancer” was adopted for both the federation and its health cooperation group, and in 2018 a shared institutional brand identity was introduced across the network.
