##BIOGRAPHY

Degree of Medicine at the University of Bari in 1966.

Fellow, then Clinical Assistant and then Associate in the Division of Medical Oncology headed by Gianni Bonadonna at the National Cancer Institute of Milan directed by Umberto Veronesi from 1968 to 1981.

At the National Cancer Institute of Milan Dr Mario De Lena has been involved in the initial Phase I and II studies on Adriamycin and Bleomicin and has contributed to the clinical studies on the treatment malignant lymphomas and of breast, lung, and ovarian carcinomas.

Director of the Division of Medical Oncology of the Istituto Oncologico of Bari from 1981 to 2000.

Appointed as Member of the National Oncological Commission of the Ministry of Health in 1989.

Scientific Director from 2000 to 2008 of the Istituto Oncologico of Bari.

Author of over 330 publications in the main fields of Medical Oncology on national and international journals.

He has been an invited lecturer in Italia, in the USA, in many European and South American countries, in Egypt and South Korea.

President of the Associazione italiana di Oncologia Medica (1991-1993).

Member of ASCO, ESMO, AACR.

He has been Member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal Tumori and other national and international Oncological Journals.
